There are 4 models of Apple iPad in the market at this moment. Among them, the iPad Air is the latest one but the iPad Pro is the most powerful one. If you want to know the difference between these two tablets then you are in the right place.
Because, in this post, we are going to compare the iPad Pro and iPad Air in a detailed manner. And, we will also share our opinion about these two premium iPads from Apple. So, if you are up for it, then let’s go…
The difference in the Specifications:
Although iPad Air is newer than the iPad Pro, the latter one has the best specifications. Matter of fact, the difference is huge. Let’s take a look at the differences down below.
CPU, RAM, and Storage Space:
The iPad Pro comes with the A12x bionic chip and Octa-Core processor whereas the iPad Air comes with the A12 chip and Hexa Core CPU. The A12x chip is significantly better and powerful than the A12. Also, the iPad Pro has 4/6 GB of RAM (depends on the variant). In contrast, the iPad Air has only 3 GB of RAM.
In the graphics department, the iPad Pro is again the better option. It has a 7-Core Apple GPU compared to the iPad Air’s 4-Core Apple GPU. Neither of these two tablets features any external SD card slot. So, you can’t expand the storage space. The iPad Air comes in two variants (64/256 GB) in terms of internal storage. On the other hand, the iPad Pro has 4 versions (64/256/512GB/1TB).
Again, the iPad Pro is the winner here. This particular tablet comes with a 12 MP back camera which is capable of 4K video recording. Along with that, it has a 7 MP front camera which is capable of taking HDR photos and Panoramas. On the opposite, the iPad Air has an 8 MP camera at the back. Unfortunately, it can’t record 4K videos. The front camera is a 7 MP one which can’t take panoramas, though.
Dissimilarities on Design:
First off, the iPad Pro has two versions in terms of screen size which are 11 inches and 12.9 inches. But the iPad Air comes only in one size which is 10.5 inches. If you want a thin tablet then iPad Pro is the winner here. The iPad Pro comes with 5.9 mm thickness and the iPad Air has a thickness of 6.1mm.
The screen resolution of the iPad Air is 1668 x 2224 pixels with 265 PPI density. And, the resolution and PPI density of iPad Pro (11 inches) are also somewhat similar to iPad Air. But the iPad Pro comes with the ProMotion tech of Apple. With the help of this tech, the screen of iPad Pro can run at a refresh rate of freaking 120 Hz whereas the iPad Air’s screen is locked at 60 Hz.
Let’s get to know about more distinctions between these two tablets.
This time, the iPad Air is the winner. It comes with an 8134 mAh Li-Po battery. But, the iPad Pro comes with a 7812 mAh one. We can guess that it was done to make sure that the iPad Pro is thinner than other iPads. Because the bigger the battery, the thicker your device will get.
The iPad Air comes with a lightning connector port for charging. However, the iPad Pro comes with USB Type-C ports. That means it will be convenient to use iPad Pro as USB Type-C connectors are now available on all types of gadgets. But, the lighting connectors are only available on Apple devices.
If you look at the front side of these two tablets, you will notice an obvious difference in the design. There aren’t any buttons on the front-bottom bezel of the iPad Pro while there is the famous ‘Home’ button on the iPad Air. That means the iPad Air comes with Apple’s Touch ID. On the opposite, the iPad Air comes with Face ID security feature. Due to the removing of the Touch ID feature, the iPad Pro comes with a thin bezel compared to iPad Air.
Both of these tablets support Apple Pencil. However, only the iPad Pro supports Apple Pencil 2. The iPad Air is only compatible with the older version of Apple Pencil. The new Apple Pencil 2 is now magnetic. So, it can be attached at the side of the iPad Pro. Along with that, it can be charged while it is attached to the iPad Pro. Cool, isn’t it?
The iPad Pro has the reverse charging feature. That means you can charge any other devices with your iPad Pro which has a USB C charging port. You just need to connect your Apple Watch, iPhone or other gadgets to the iPad Pro for a quick charge.
About the Price:
It might seem that iPad Pro is better than iPad Air from every angle. Honestly, it is true. But, it is also true that the iPad Pro is a lot expensive than the iPad Air. The iPad Air is priced at about $499 whereas the iPad Pro has a price tag of $783.
There’ no denying that the iPad Pro is the most powerful and the best iPad at this moment. So, it would the best choice if you want to buy a new tablet from Apple. However, the higher price tag might be a red flag for some of us.
If that is the case, then the iPad Air can be a great option for you. It has great specifications and features which can easily meet the demands of day to day use. But, if you want performance and don’t have any budget-related issues, then the iPad Pro would be the ultimate choice for you.
